Gear List: Snowy Hiking/Camping
Individual Gear
- backpack -- line with garbage bag
- sleeping bag -- preferably rated to 15 degrees colder than your expected temperature
- thermarest or two ground pads
- snowshoes
- headlamp or flashlight
- knife -- Leatherman, Swiss Army, etc.
- lighter/matches
- webbing
- cord (1/8" x 20' is useful)
- day pack -- big enough for a day's water and a meal plus incidentals like camera and sunscreen
- 2 1l water bottles or equivalent
- water purification
- 2 bowls: 1 large, 1 small (or a plate and a bowl)
- mug
- knife/fork/spoon
- medkit
- blister tape
- gauze & tape
- bandaids
- antibiotic ointment
- painkiller
- minimal toiletries -- toothbrush, toothpaste, maybe camp soap
- clothing -- no cotton anything if you can avoid it -- use a synthetic or wool:
(NOTA BENE -- it is a good idea to keep a spare set of socks and long underwear separate in a Ziploc or dry bag for emergencies)
- socks -- liner and thick both, enough for the trip
- long underwear
- fleece pants
- shell pants
- fleece sweater (preferably two)
- shell jacket
- warm insulated parka or 300 wt fleece coat
- glove liners and insulated gloves; preferably also mitten shell
- fleece hat
- gaiters
- waterproofed boots
- sunglasses
- mung towel, very small

- topo of the area -- more than one for the group is always best
- tent w/ ground cover
